Weekend Recap

Saturday, we went to Hickory Grove's Fall Festival.  WOW!!  Big event.  It was a little chilly with the wind but thankfully the sun was shining.

This was Ella's first game.  At each game, the kids were given handfuls of candy.  They would really just give me the candy wrappers.

Their favorite game was angry birds.  Even the big kids, Garrett and Eddie played this one.  Too funny.  Great idea.

Seth purchased a new robe.  He has LIVED in it.  If we are at home, he is in his robe.  We call him the old man.

Birthday week has started.  Each day Garrett gets to open a gift from the birthday bag.  He is very excited.  Daily post about each day will come.

Life's Interruptions

Why is it that I get so bothered when things do not go according to my wonderful plans?  I am such a planner.  Lay it all out so that I can look at all and organize the busy of life.  I show my frustration when showing "pops" up.

My heart is so saddened by my roommate from college's family.  Her husband died on Sunday from his battle with stomach cancer.  He was diagnosed in early August and now we are at the end of October.  I would truly say this is an interruption in life.  They have two little ones and had moved to Texas with his job in the army.  He had been deployed with the Army in June/July.  My how this plan "popped" up for them.

My devotion today was Life's Interruptions.  The bible story was Jonah.  Boy how his life got a little interruption.  He was angry and frustrated.  I think I do exactly what Jonah did - I want to get so frustrated and turn the other way.  If only we could see the end of the story.  We would see that God had this all planned out for His glory.  There is a divine something that God is inviting me to see or partake of if only I would just "trust" Him.

The lesson in all of this, from the devotion, is to look at God's hand in the interruptions in life.
Interruptions in life are just a brush stroke on God's canvas of our life.

"The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you;  he will never leave nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."  Deuteronomy 31:8.

Help me Dear Lord to embrace life's little or big interruptions to see You in each of them.  Prayers go out to this family today.  I am so broken but yet hopeful that You will show me great and mighty things through this interruption.

Last Week's Fun

Last Week Recap

Ella decided she was going to be the teacher.  She lined up her animals, pulled out the whiteboard, grab her notebook and she was teaching.

My oh My!  Chip off the old block Ha

Friday, we left for Greenville, NC to visit my cousin Erica at ECU.  She called it a "Girl's Weekend".

Ella had a great time.  She decided that the girl's weekend meant shopping and stores.

1st purchase a stuffed kitty in a pocketbook.  This child loves stuffed animals

Waiting outside in Washington, NC for the other girls

Playing Pop the Pig game with Erica in her apartment.

Well off to run.  I invited Garrett to go run with me.  So he agreed.  It was alot of fun to chat and run.  He did very well.  PS  he is still 12 years old.  He has grown taller than his momma by alot.

Halloween and birthdays are just around the corner.

Lazy 5 Ranch

Yesterday we joined 50 other homeschoolers for a day at the Lazy 5 Ranch.  Garrett has been on a field trip before to the Lazy 5 so he didn't join us.  I was excited to spend the day with just Ella and Seth.

We loaded a wagon for a ride through the Ranch.  We each had some food to feed the animals.  Both of the kids were a little scared at first but after the first feeding they were ready.  The animals walk right up to the wagon.

After the wagon ride, we ventured over to the slide and corn.  We had incredible weather.  Ella tells funny stories about feeding the animals.

Lazy 5 Ranch is very unique and fun to do together.

All good things must come to an end

Every Friday, Garrett wears his jersey "to school"
He took great pride wearing it.

Saturday was the first playoff game.  I knew that I needed to take pictures.  The Piedmont Panthers played the #1 team.  Not such a good match up.  A perfect fall day for watching football.
We still have a taped ankle from the injury three weeks ago.
So glad I was able to see his stickers on the back of his helmet.  He worked very hard this season.
So proud of him for sticking it out for his first time playing.  He learned a lot about himself as an athlete:
1.  Hard Work
2.  Sweat
3.  Getting Hit
4.  Getting Hurt
5.  Ice Bucket
6.  Heat
7.  Lots of Gatorade
8.  Hustle
9.  Positions
10.  Friendship
11.  Teamwork
12.  Drive
13.  What it feels like to be tackled
14.  The feeling of catching a pass
15.  The feeling of catching a pass and running for a touchdown
Getting ready to take the field in his last 7th grade game.  Very proud of him for trying something new and finishing strong.

Way to go #27

Hockey on the mind

Garrett is beginning to get geared up for hockey.  The NHL hockey season has begun.  Last night he came flying down the stairs.  He couldn't believe it.  His favorite team is the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Loves Sydney Crosby.   He came down after checking on the Penguins score.  He saw Steve MacIntyre's name on the roster.

Garrett is blown away.

Steve would come to our old church whenever he was home on the off season.  He married a girl that is from Wingate.

He is cool.  Garrett is in awe whenever he sees him.  To know that he plays in the NHL.  Now to know that he plays with Sydney Crosby.  Garrett is blown away.

This will be a fun season watching Steve play.

Garrett may be cheering for a new number #33.
